Lest we forget

The First World War

They said

Ground soaked

With blood

With countless dead

Lest we forget

Another World War

More death, maimed, dying

Millions dispossessed

Millions murdered

Millions scarred by war.

They said

Our young

died for freedom

They said

they died

For no more war

Lest we forget

So many deaths

Millions of deaths

And we keep going

Back

For more

I say

While we forget

Manus, Nauru, Syria, Palestine

While there’s one war

Anywhere

We spit on the memory

of our dead

Lest we forget?

I say

We have forgotten
