by Shona Blake
I am a dark one
And flow with the dark river
The place of my beginning
I came fast
The river was in a hurry that day
But my mother caught me just in time
My father named me
A name my mother couldn’t hold
But I grew into it with time
And now the time
Has returned my mother to the dark river
The place of her beginning and mine.
Note: The idea for this piece came from my mother’s maiden name, Delaney, meaning the dark river and my maiden name (her married name0, Blake, meaning the dark one.)
