My lover

brought me a poesy

yesterday morn

alone in the meadow

alive with spring

Ragged robin, vetch,

golden agrimony and trefoil

I took the wild flowers

Alive with spring

Now their petals drop,

To the awakening

Wind stirred grass

opened up

a path between us

Ragged robin, vetch,

golden agrimony and trefoil,

He gave me the flowers

I gave him my heart

my life, my faith, my troth

I took the wild flowers

alive with spring

Now their petals drop,

to the awakening

Dawn is breaking

dayspring comes

A new day, a new life

I tremble,

and tremble

like a hand-held bird,

what’s done is done

A maid at sunset

now I brush away my tears

Adieu, maid

I took the wild flowers

alive with spring

Now their petals drop,

to the awakening

My lover stirs beside me

breathing softly in his sleep

lips parted, he looks a boy,

not the man of nightfall

I kissed him then

Oh,

how I kissed him

and naked body caressed

I took the wild flowers

alive with spring

now their petals drop,

to the awakening

I cannot go back

nor do I wish it

Is it sin to love

and to be loved

when we pledged our troths

hand fast

in the meadow

amongst flowers,

kissed

by dew of a new morn?

I took the wild flowers

alive with spring

now their petals drop,

to the awakening

Unaware

my lover sleeps, breathing softly,

stirring, without awaking,

reaching for me

Does he not know the girl

he loved last night

is forever gone?

I took the wild flowers

alive with my spring

now their petals drop,

one by one

one by one

to the awakening
