By Bernadette Gallagher.

He talked of grey, of blue, purple
and all the possible pigments
that make up grey.

He talked of trees, of branches,
of roots.

He would have gone on to talk
of colours – to paint the air with them

but I closed my arms
around him, spilling the palette

letting the colours merge
to create something new.
